چکیده

Background: Upper GI endoscopy is the gold standard technique for diagnosing esophageal varices and to assess risk of bleeding but invasive in nature, costly, time consuming burden department. Besides this platelet count also an important tool predict cirrhotic patient it a highly accurate test. has been noted that patients with varices, less than 100,000/cmm very few data available so aim current study was find out association between mean grading liver cirrhosis. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional conducted at medicine department Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Karachi. For testing blood sample sent pathology laboratory hospital. Gastroenterologist performed upper gastrointestinal grade varices. Data analyzed by using Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) version-20. ANOVA Post-Hoc Tuckey test applied correlation variables. p-value 0.05 considered as significant. Results: The age participants 34.9±8.6 years. Majority were male (61.1%) compared their counterparts. among 113,200±29000 /u L majority included having III (39.5%). It decreased increasing Cirrhotic Grade I near normal those who V markedly I, II, IV. Conclusion: can be concluded significantly inverse low count, worst So used screening purpose cost effective Keywords: Cirrhosis, Esophageal Mean Platelet

Platelet count/spleen diameter ratio predicted the presence of esophageal varices in liver cirrhosis.

Thanks to Dr. Daniel J. Brotman of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for pointing out an error in the confidence interval for sensitivity in “Platelet count/spleen diameter ratio predicted the presence of esophageal varices in liver cirrhosis” (1). The correct values appear in the Table. Operating characteristics of platelet count/spleen diameter ratio (cutpoint ≤ 909 for a positive diagnosis) fo...

Platelet count to splenic diameter ratio and other noninvasive markers as predictors of esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Endoscopy as a screening modality for esophageal varices is becoming difficult because of its invasiveness, cost, and increased burden of liver cirrhosis. This study aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of simple and noninvasive markers in detecting esophageal varices. MATERIALS AND METHODS Four variables (platelet count, portal vein diameter, splenic diameter, and ratio ...

Noninvasive prediction of large esophageal varices in liver cirrhosis patients.

PURPOSE Esophageal varices are a dangerous complication of liver cirrhosis. The development of cost effective, noninvasive means for prediction of large esophageal varices could reduce the use of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in variceal screening and also provide an alternative way to confirm the results of conventional endoscopic diagnosis. Previously proposed predictive models are neither...

association between platelet count as a noninvasive marker and ultrasonographic grading in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

background nonalcoholic fatty liver disease has become a worldwide challenge. liver biopsy remains the single most reliable approach to determine the severity of this disease. as patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease require close follow-up, performing this invasive method repeatedly seems impractical; therefore, designing a noninvasive system to follow up patients has become a common ...

The correlation between cytopenia and esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis.

This retrospective study analysed the case records of 200 patients in the Department of Gastroenterology, Singapore General Hospital from February 2000 to January 2001 who had liver cirrhosis and underwent gastroscopy for the detection of varices. The aim of this study was to determine any relationship between leucopenia, thrombocytopenia and the occurrence of esophageal varices in a cirrhotic ...
